The internet has made it easy for anyone planning an event easy access to hundreds if not thousands of resources. That's the good news!

Now for some bad!

Anyone can now be in business and you're NOT protected!

Q. Did you know that Google and Yahoo don't require a business license to advertise on their sites?

Third party sites like Decidio, Partypop, WedAlert, gigmasters and hundreds others will let ANYONE list there company for free or as a paid advertiser without ever requiring any documents? How stupid is that?

So what? Who cares?

That means any Tom, Dick or Henry or A Registered Sex offender, Con Man can be the one you hire! Sounds good doesn't it?

Very Important!!!

At last count, there were an estimated 700 self called professional DJ services in Tampa Bay. Why do we mention this? Because we care about your event just like you do! The vast majority of Deejays are un-licensed, non -insured and have no formal training in crowd motivation, interactives, music mixing, public speaking, or many of the other necessary skills needed to manage an event. Not to mention a business plan to survive and pay taxes like you do.

Protect Yourself

If you are uncertain of who are are interested in hiring for your event, ask for these 4 documents:

1. State docs - this will verify the owner, where they live and how long they have been in business
2. Certificate of insurance - This protects the venue and you from being sued by DJ neglect. ADJA members require DJ insurance
3. Copy of their contract -
4. Bank statement - If you don't mind making your check out to Joe Smith then don't bother.

If they can't provide these basic documents to be in business, RUN!
